Pinhoe Jubilee Club celebrates its 125th anniversary
A milestone was reached Saturday last when the Pinhoe Jubilee Club celebrated its 125th anniversary, placing it amongst the oldest social clubs in the country.
To celebrate the anniversary, the club held a fancy dress party with members and guests rising to the challenge with costumes of all kinds on display, with a prize – an 1887 silver farthing – for the best. After attendees cast their vote, the winners were Peter & Diane Mitcheson (Pictured).
When it first opened the club consisted of just two rooms, a reading room and a social room for the gentlemen of Pinhoe, 125 years later and it has now grown to include a skittles alley/function room, a large snooker hall, darts area, a crabs table and two bars and now serves over 550 members. The club also enters many teams in various leagues including Darts, Billiards, Snooker and Skittles, each team enjoying some success; Both the men’s and ladies skittles teams finishing runners up in the festival cup, the club also finishing first in the summer snooker league, along with members Dale ‘Tops’ Morgan and John Breban winning the pairs Darts trophy (and John also won the singles).
The committee would like to thank all members past and present for their contributions to the club and look forward to many more years of service to the people of Pinhoe and surrounding area.
