Pink with a touch of green: The Hospiscare Twilight Walk
Hospiscare is asking ‘going green’ at the upcoming Twilight Walk in Exmouth, which takes place on Saturday, 7 July. The charity is also taking measures to keep environmental impact at the event as low as possible – for example, no ready-filled water bottles will be available.
Along with the Twilight Walk’s usual 5-mile and 10-mile routes there will be a 5k fun run – and all walkers and runners are encouraged to bring their own reusable water bottles to cut down on single-use plastic bottles. Alternatively, Hospiscare’s new 750 ml BPA-free reusable water bottle will be available to buy on the day.
Thirsty Work is kindly donating the water for fill-ups from three water stations, one at the starting point at the Maer and two more en route.
At the finish line, pink fizz – the theme this year – will be served in eco-friendly, compostable wine goblets. There will be a choice of pink prosecco, kindly provided by Regency Wines, and a non-alcoholic sparkling fruit juice, which Shloer is generously supplying.
This year’s event will be catering for both vegetarians and vegans, who will be able to enjoy a delicious half pizza hot from the Exe Valley Pizza Co. wood-fired oven. Kenniford Farm, meanwhile, will be serving up their traditional bacon baps to those who prefer meat.
The Libation Bar will be open from 6.15pm to 11pm to serve refreshing drinks. And just to emphasise that being green doesn’t mean you can’t have fun, there will be a Magic Mirror photo booth for that all-important selfie!
Organiser Sharon Ewart said: “Whether you are taking part in the fun run or walking, if past Twilight Walks are anything to go by it will be a fantastic, fun evening with an amazing atmosphere.
“Our huge thanks go to Western Power Distribution, our headline sponsors again this year, and to Brandon Tool Hire in Exmouth who are supplying some essential equipment without cost to us. We count ourselves lucky to have so many generous sponsors.
“More than 850 people have signed up to walk or run, and with less than two weeks to go there are still a few places left, but you’d better be quick. We’ll be taking entries on the day at £25 per person, but you can ensure your place – and save money - by signing up online at www.twilightwalk.org.uk or by calling us during office hours on 01392 688020. Do so before midnight on Tuesday 3 July while the entry fee is £20 for an individual or £60 for a group of four.”
