CITY Community Trust golf day tees off in style
There was beautiful weather and superb golfing conditions for the inaugural CITY Community Trust Charity Golf Day to raise funds to improve the lives of many people in Exeter.
Exeter Golf & Country Club was in stunning condition with 34 players across 9 teams competing for prizes on every hole, a £10,000 Mini for a ‘hole-in-one’, an overall team prize, before enjoying a Q&A with new Exeter City FC Manager Matt Taylor, a celebration dinner, prize-giving, raffle and silent auction.
Taking the overall team honours in 2018 were the team entered from Active Devon, and their golfers James Bogue, Chris Brown, Andy Jack and Neil Pateman (pictured above) with a score 20 over the innovative six-hole course. The runners-up prize was shared between the teams from All Parts SW and the team from the Bear Trail each finishing on 21 shots.
Elsewhere, the putting competition had joint winners in Ben Jordan from the Bear Trail and Martin Newbery from All Part SW, with Dave Newbery coming within three feet of taking the £10,000 for a ‘hole-in-one’ but taking the honours for nearest the pin. Other winners included Exeter Chiefs playmaker Stu Townsend, and Chris Brown in the bunker challenge.
Craig Townsend, Business Development Manager for CITY Community Trust said: ‘We’ve had some great support from many local businesses donating prizes and the feedback from all teams was fantastic. We raised a fantastic £1,000 and engaged many new friends on the day to what was an inclusive and fun format for a golf day. We hope will go from strength to strength and in 2019 we want to engage more supporters and local business people.
‘A huge thank you to our main sponsors, Westerly Mini Exeter and St Austell Brewery for supporting our day, the team at Exeter Golf & Country Club including coaches, managers and clubhouse staff and the many, many other business supporting this inaugural event.’
He added: ‘As always, it’s a great opportunity to get all of our supporters and partners together to enjoy a great day, relax and socialise together – and, most importantly, raise money for a great cause.’
