Kane Wilson rejoins City on loan
Kane Wilson says he has unfinished business with Exeter City having agreed to join the club on loan again until the end of the season.
Kane, 18, who has represented England at under-16 and under-17 level, spent the majority of last season on loan at St James Park where he made 22 appearances for the Grecians and scored his first goal in senior football in a 2-1 victory over Barnet.
It was a successful time for the club as City reached the League Two play-off final, before losing to Coventry City at Wembley. However, Kane has set his sights on going one better this time around because he knows how much it would mean to the supporters.
“When I was at Exeter City last time it was a really fond spell that I look back on,” he said. “Getting so close to going up and not going up, I now know how much it means to everyone there and how much they want it. It is definitely unfinished business for me and I am coming back there ready.”
Kane, who spent the first half of this season on loan at League One Walsall, admits that he didn't need much convincing to re-sign for Exeter once he knew they were interested.
“As soon as the opportunity came up, I wanted to jump on it,” he said. “I have been there before and I know the club and I know the fans and I know how much Exeter City means to them. Getting the chance to go back is a great opportunity for me. I spoke to Matt (Taylor) and I am buzzing.”
Speaking about his relationship with the City fans, Kane added: “They have been really nice to me since I left,” he said. “I see all the messages they send me and things like that. I am just happy to be coming back. Once a Grecian, always a Grecian.”
Matt Taylor added that Kane will add competition for places on the right-hand side and it was a big plus that he has had a spell on loan at the club before.
“We all know him as a player and as a personality,” said Matt. “Hopefully, he is a year further on in terms of his development and a year further down the line as a player.
“He knows the club and he knows the way we train so things will be familiar, so we are not working with a totally new player. We are looking forward to getting him involved. It is another player who has got good physical attributes and he will add competition for places.
“He wasn’t perfect last time. He got sent-off a couple of times and was learning his game and I expect much of this same. However, it gives us another option on the right side of defence and midfield.”
