"I admire the youngsters in the Big Bank – they’ve been really, really positive this year."

Paul Tisdale

Ahead of the visit of Dagenham & Redbridge on Saturday, Exeter City manager Paul Tisdale paid his compliments to the supporters for the role they’re playing in the promotion push.

With five games remaining, the Grecians are sitting pretty in the play-off places with the ambition of playing League 1 football next year still a real possibility.  And Tis acknowledged that the continued upbeat influence of City’s supporters could prove all-important in the final stretch.

“The fans have been really good,” said Tis.  “I admire the youngsters in the Big Bank – they’ve been really, really positive this year.  I see a lot of them at away games and after games and they’re really positive.  And why not?  They’re supporting their club, and with a few games left to go we’re in a really good situation.

“The fans can play a part in it as well – they can lead the team.  They can give energy, and it’s better that than being negative.  Our fans have been really good, I have to say.

“I think our players would like to feel wanted and feel they’re doing their club proud – I think every word and every bit of energy that goes into them that’s positive can only make a difference.”

Paul also felt that City, as a Trust-owned club, have a scenario in which the fans have a unique opportunity to make a massive difference to on-field affairs.

“We’ve got a chance of getting into League 1, so why wouldn’t you get behind your side?” he continued.  “And the fans own their club – there aren’t many places where the supporters own their club.  And if you own the club you’ve got more influence on things than at other clubs.

“You’ve got the opportunity not just to support your team, but push your team too – that’s part of being a supporter-owned club.  We’re all in it together.”
