Exeter City Korfball Club top of both divisions of the South West league
Exeter City korfball club finished 2013 at the top of divisions one and two of the South West league.
Both of the club's league teams have beaten competitive opposition from as far afield as Gloucester and Bristol. Exeter coach, Rob King, said "This is an exciting time for us as we look to secure league wins and promotion positions later in the season." This has all been achieved with the club expanding, training many new recruits, and forming a non-league third team to accommodate new players.
Club chairman James Hardy commented: "A central part of the Club's future growth relies on bringing in new people to try out this fantastic sport and helping them develop to a level where they can challenge for places and compete against the best players in the region. Watching our newer players hone their skills and picking up the techniques has been really satisfying and we're all looking forward to welcoming more people to the club in the New Year".
Exeter's first game of 2014 is against Bristol Thunder, where the club hopes to avenge its only second team loss so far this season. Rob King continues, "Thunder have a lot of experience and are a high scoring side, but I believe the skill we have shown in the first half of the season will continue into the New Year."
Korfball is a mixed sex sport with characteristics of basketball, handball and netball.
Exeter City train on Tuesday evenings at Exeter School from 6.30pm, and Clifton Hill sports Centre on Thursday evenings from 7.30 and are always looking for new recruits – no experience is required.
