A plethora of future jump racing stars are set to line up at Exeter Racecourse today (Tuesday 22 October) when the course stages its annual Best Mate Novice Chase Day.

That particular race is named after the legendary racehorse Best Mate who began his glittering career over fences at Exeter in 2000. He went on to win the Cheltenham Gold Cup three times and amass over £1 million in prize money.

Last year’s meeting brought a host of stars to the track including Grade One winning Melodic Rendezvous, Rocky Creek and Harry Topper and next week’s seven race card looks set to attract some more high class individuals.

Legendary Westcountry point-to-pointer Southwestern, who won 24 times between the flags and three chases, will be the guest retired racehorse in the Brookridge Timber stable and an added bonus this year is that everyone who pre-books to attend the meeting will be entered into a draw to win a share in the recently names racehorse Snappy Poet trained by Jeremy Scott. The winner will be drawn after the third race.

The first race is at 2.10pm. Tickets cost from £13 (if booked in advance) and children aged 17 and under race free.

A free bus leaves Exeter St David’s at 12.30pm and the Bus & Coach Station 12.45pm, returning half an hour after the last race.

Book your tickets by calling the ticket hotline on 08445 793005 or online www.exeter-racecourse.co.uk
