Men's Golf

This past weekend saw the gents section compete in a Fourball Betterball competition. 

Low scoring was the order of the day with 76 pairs playing. 

Alistair Ross & Josh Money were the winners with 45 points.  Runners Up were Colin Wayman & Cliff Nightingale a solitary point behind on 44 points.  George Robinson & Alex Boulton were beaten into third place on the back 9.  30 twos were scored worth £8.80 each

Exe League

The first Exe League meeting of the year took place at East Devon on Sunday. 

With three foursomes matches and three fourball matches per team, the total points are collated to gather to produce a winner. 

East Devon won on home ground with 185 points, Exeter came second on 178 points, Tiverton third on 175 points and Woodbury somewhat off the pace with 151 points.

League after one round: East Devon 10 points,  Exeter GCC 8, Tiverton 6, Woodbury Park 4. 

Exeter Golf & Counry Club win Saunton Vets Cup 

With 18 teams of eight senior men representing golf clubs from all over the West Country, and even South Wales, this is a keenly fought after annual event with the Exeter Golf and Country Club Squad proudly returning home with the silverware.

The Exeter Golf and Country Club team comprised club Captain Ray Banfield, seniors men captain Les Nicks, Dave Drew, Duncan Beck, Richard Pillow, Mike Kirkham, Richard Cleave and Vic Fox.

Played over both the challenging East and West Saunton Courses on a warm and virtually wind free spring day the 4 Exeter Golf and Country Club Pairs returned the highest aggregate score with three pairs securing  a highly creditable 40 Stableford points each.

Ladies Golf

The Exeter Golf and Country Club Ladies Mail on Sunday team of Gill Newbery, Gill Richards, Ali Scoble, Anne Norman and Carol Rovira had a very convincing 5-0 win at home against Woodbury Park to proceed to the third round of this national knockout competition.

Tuesday’s 13-hole Spring Greensomes, which traditionally heralds the start of the ladies golf season, was won by Liz Turner and Sheila Vaile with 27 points followed by Jan Ash and Barbara Nute with 26 and Anne Norman and Shirley Norman with 25 points. 

This was followed by dinner and the annual presentations of medals and prizes by lady captain Chris Clark.

Birthday girl Christine Norton was awarded the 2013 England Golf and the DCLGA bronze medals with Anne Norman winning the silver. 

The 2013 DCLGA stableford winners were Jenny Plummer, Mary Fox, Christine Norton, Carol Gregory, Elsa Gent, Pat Roberts, Jenny Paddon and Nicki Dixie and the winter knockout was won by Christine Beattie.
