Pete Trego back at the County Ground after New Zealand injury

Somerset all-rounder Pete Trego is back at the County Ground training hard following his early return from New Zealand with a side strain.

“I picked up a side strain out in New Zealand which was a bit of a setback so now I have got six to eight weeks back here working to get ready for the new season,” Trego explained.

“I injured myself trying to take a catch. My studs caught in the ground and I twisted awkwardly and pulled something in my side so it was a bit of a freak injury.”

“It’s now three weeks since it happened and I haven’t been able to do a great deal so I am quite looking forward to getting into training again and things feel absolutely fine now.”

Talking about his time playing cricket for Central Districts, the 31 year old said: “New Zealand was a fantastic place to be and I was just so frustrated that I missed out on the majority of the T20 competition.”

“I had just started to feel my feet over there and scored 59 the week before and in the game that we were playing I had just taken two important wickets and felt that I was right into it, so it was just unfortunate it finished that way over there for me.”

“It’s probably the first place in the world that I have played cricket where I feel that I have got some unfinished business. I like to leave places feeling that they have a sense of what I am all about, but I don’t feel that I really did that so it was a bit disappointing really.”

“However I did manage to bowl over 100 overs outside on the grass while I was in New Zealand and I got to spend time batting in the middle and scored some runs so it served a purpose and I enjoyed my time there.”

“Central Districts were fantastic to me and a great bunch of blokes to play cricket with. There were some fantastic players over there and hope to return there at some stage in the future.”

Trego added: “Its great being back in town and catching up with everybody at the County Ground, so its been very easy picking up from where I left off!”
