Spitfires ready for start of the baseball season

Exeter's new baseball team, the Spitfires, are getting set for their first game in the South West Baseball league. Following several weeks of indoor and outdoor training with their qualified coaches, the team head to Plymouth this Sunday to take on the reigning league champions the Mariners. The team's first home game is on 12 May against Bristol Bats.

It has been a busy pre-season for the new team as they have trained a number of men and women who are completely new to the sport, have had to organise the setting up of their brand new home field at St Luke's Sports College as well as finalising, sourcing and ordering all the equipment needed for the team.

Along with these preparations, the Spitfires' coaches are also organising school-based training and teams at two local secondary schools. Although the season is about to start, the Spitfires are always looking for new players of any experience to join the team.

Training takes place at King George V Playing Field on Topsham Road at 6.30pm on Mondays and all equipment is provided. For further information please contact the team by e-mail at exeterspitfires@hotmail.co.uk, visit their website at www.exeterspitfires.co.uk or find them on Facebook or Twitter.
