Talent on show at Golf and Country Club
Exeter Golf and Country Club hosted their own version of the World Tennis Tournament on Saturday 15 February to coincide with the professional event in Rotterdam.
The club’s 12 and under players took part in a knockout event with many close matches leading to a final between George Guy and Marcus Kay. The final was an incredibly close contest and came down to the final point which was won by George.
James Temple, Head of Rackets, said: “The junior players really enjoy these events and take a keen interest in the professional tour as a result. It’s a great opportunity for them to take part in some competitive tennis and follow the professional tour outside the Grand Slam events.”
On the squash front, Exeter Golf and Country Club’s second team beat Plymouth University who lead Division 1 and the third and fourth teams beat Tiverton’s first and second teams respectively:
Exeter Golf and Country Club’s second squash team completed a fantastic victory over Plymouth University on Wednesday night.
Plymouth, who lead Division 1, had come into the game on a five match winning streak. The result leaves Exeter Golf and Country Club’s second team in fourth position in Division 1 with four matches still to play.
There was also double success for the club’s third and fourth teams against Tiverton’s first and second strings.
On Tuesday, Mark Cooper, Al Hutchings, Dave Hazzard, James Chamings and Ryan Barrett secured a 16-10 victory at home against Tiverton’s first team.
