Fitness First launches the gym equipment of tomorrow

Fitness First has embarked on a nationwide project which will see its gyms undergo a complete transformation, with investment being made to improve the clubs' decors as well as their equipment, changing rooms and workout areas.

With an investment of over £20 million across clubs commencing in 2013, Fitness First is taking fitness technology and the gym experience to another level. Each site will be kitted out with the latest exercise equipment to put members in complete control of their workout.

So what are these unique 'workout of the future' inspired initiatives?

THE CARDIO WALL

Tailor made to simulate the movements made in our everyday actions, the cardiowall is the ultimate machine to inject fun into fitness. Getting members moving in a variety of new and unusual ways, the aim is to hit as many lights off as possible within one minute. The wall promises to increase both cardiovascular fitness and individual reaction times, which are forcibly heightened, aiding in a greater communication and perception between the brain and the body. Users can challenge themselves against the clock or even try and beat the Fitness First team who on average have scored an impressive 200 hits per minute. Workouts intensity can be increased by adding boxing gloves or weights to the arms.

INTERACTIVE HD SCREEN TREADMILLS

Coined as the number one treadmill to help boost engagement, this HD screen personalised piece of equipment comes with everything from an Ipod dock, to films, games and most importantly an interactive running track. Encouraging you to 'go the extra mile', members can select anywhere in the world, from the Californian desert to the mountains in Europe, to run their next half marathon. Surrounded by a fully interactive environment, including fellow runners, the scenery keeps pace with the runner and the equipment incline and resistance changes with the terrain.

WATTBIKE

The only exercise bike on the planet to be registered and backed by the GB cycling team, this tailor made piece of equipment offers the most realistic environment in which to train on a bike. Working solely with air resistance, the Wattbike's main value is its fitness measurement tools, which are identically calibrated across all machines: speed, time, and distance, heart rate and, power output is all recorded. How much power you can put out over a given duration is still the gold standard for how fit you are and the Wattbike's reliable tools will help monitor this. The Wattbike's other benefit is its pedalling analysis. It can tell if your pedalling technique is poor and you can work to improve it, enabling you to spend less time in the dead spot of the pedal revolution and to get the most out of your workout.

BATTLE ROPES

This complete strength and conditioning program is like no other and works the entire body in one satisfying bout of movement. Created and developed by a multiple world record holder John Brookfield the rope system encourages strength and stamina to increase dramatically, no matter whether it's a novice or athlete working the ropes. The workout requires the user to slam thick ropes on the ground in a gratifying workout that directly targets the core and arms amongst other areas.

HOT YOGA

Hot yoga is the latest class to launch at Fitness First. Held in a unique purpose built studio the class is performed in temperatures between 32-36 degrees and aims to raise your heart rate and work every
part of the body from organs, veins, ligaments and of course, muscles. Alongside the intensive workout gym goers will also sweat all the impurities and toxins out of their body simultaneously helping to develop strength, flexibility and tone along with a cardiovascular workout. Practicing yoga in heat also allows a deeper and safer stretch so ideal for any age, novice or expert!
