Dorset conference to address public/private sector tensions
A high-profile Dorset conference this week (on Wed 5th December) will address the tensions between the public and private sectors.
Key note speakers will include influential figures from the worlds of business, education and government.
The event, at Bournemouth University this Wednesday, is being organized by the Institute of Directors (IoD) in Dorset and held in conjunction with the university, business engagement organisation Business Solent and Poole-based chartered surveyors Align.
Warren Munson, chairman of the IoD in Dorset, said: “We’re thrilled to host this full-day conference which features an astonishing line-up of key note speakers.
“Our aim is to address the tensions between the public and private sectors and to work together to discuss and implement a route of change for Dorset.”
Speakers include Professor John Vinney, vice chancellor of Bournemouth University, Bournemouth East MP and parliamentary private secretary Tobias Elwood and Hampshire-based Mike Rushworth, of M3LEP and managing director of Vitacress Salads.
Sally Lynskey and Mike Smith, of Business Solent, will discuss economic co-operation in practice, Rob Varley, operations and services director of the Met Office, will talk on getting efficiency into public sector service delivery and Robert Holt, managing director of Carillion Local Government Services, will discuss co-operation on major projects.
Other speakers will include Leslie Spiers, of the Boardroom Dynamics consultancy and a Dorset IOD committee member, Nicola Youern, of independent living charity YOU, Lawrence Vincent, principal of Bournemouth and Poole College, and Debbie Ward, CEO of Dorset County Council.
