The Greatest Snowman

With the odds on a White Christmas 2020 looking fairly likely, depending on where you live, it’s a good idea to start planning how you’re going to make your first snowman of the year stand out amongst the rest! In Scotland, Northern Ireland and northern areas of England, snow is all but confirmed, with odds ranging from 4/1, 6/1 and 9/1 for the latter.

And, what better way to brainstorm your next creation than look at some of the masterpieces that have come before you? Read on as we take you on a tour of some of the greatest snowmen that, we think, have ever been built!

The Feeder

One clever snowman-crafter came up with the idea of making a bird/squirrel feeder out of snow, in the shape of snow-woman! With a tilted pink hat and the nutritious seeds cradled in her “arms”, this snow-lady is a welcoming fixture for all the hungry wildlife that may be looking for a snack this Christmas! Make your own snowy feeder and watch the birds and squirrels flock to your creation!

The Two-for-One

Another great idea for a Christmas-time creation is a father and son mash up – which is easier to do than you might think! First, make your standard snowman, like you would if you were just going for a regular design, and then add on a smaller ball of snow on top of his head. Form some little arms either side of the smaller ball, and make a face out of coal and carrots. Add a hat and mittens to the smaller creature and there you have it – a little snow-boy sitting on his snowman dad’s shoulders!

The World Record

Snowman Guinness World Record - Cracking Up the Capital

In February 2015, the world record for the most snowmen built in one hour was broken, at the TD Place stadium in Ottawa Canada. Hoards of people gathered at the venue, finishing the session with a whopping 1,299 snowmen made! Now, it sounds like a rather tall order, by why not invite your neighbours to have a socially-distanced snowman building session of your own? Afterall, ‘tis the season, and, you never know, you may just end up making a new record of your own!

The Peeping Tom

If you fancy yourself as a bit of a prankster, and you’re looking for new ways to keep your family entertained, then why not build this next cheeky chappy. When no one’s looking, pop outside and begin to form your creation. Compile your snowman against your unsuspecting victim’s bedroom window, to make it look like he’s peering in! You can also add some stick arms, to get the snowman to almost lean in on the action. Then ask the person you’re about to spook to open their curtains or look out of their window, and let the fun begin! We’re sure they’ll see the funny side, after they get over the shock!

So, whether you’re looking to be the next expert snowman builder in your neighbourhood, or just want to add a little something extra to your snowy back garden scene, it’s looking like your skills are going to come in handy this Christmas, with a blanket of snow on the horizon!
