Police appeal after four-vehicle collision near Tavistock

Police are appealing for information following a four-vehicle collision near Tavistock which left three people injured.

The collision happened on the A386 near Grenofen around 6pm on Wednesday (27 February).

A silver Ford Focus travelling towards Tavistock was in collision with a Nissan Almera and a DAF HGV travelling in the opposite direction.

As a result a fourth vehicle, a black BMW also heading to Tavistock, was in collision with the Nissan Almera.

The occupants of the Focus, an 80-year-old man and a 79-year-old woman from Bere Alston, had to be cut free from the vehicle by the fire service. They were taken to Derriford Hospital with injuries not thought to be serious.

The female driver of the Almera, a 28-year-old woman from Milton Abbot, sustained serious back injuries and internal bruising and was also taken to Derriford Hospital.

The 59-year-old Plymouth man driving the HGV and a 38-year-old Tavistock man driving the BMW were uninjured.

The road was closed for seven hours for the trapped casualties to be freed and for police officers to investigate the scene.

Police are appealing for witness to the collision and anyone with information is asked to contact the Serious Collision Investigation Unit at Crownhill police station by phoning 101, quoting log 595 of 27/02/2013.
