Blasts hit SaadAllah al Jabiri Square in Aleppo, 48 killed
Several explosions rocked the centre of Aleppo on Wednesday, Syria's largest metropolis, killing at least 48 people and injuring close to a hundred, the British-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) reported.
The blasts hit SaadAllah al Jabiri Square, Aleppo's main square, which is located in a government-controlled district.
Most of victims of today’s bombings are reported to have been regime troops. A military officers' club and a hotel, both located in the square, were almost completely destroyed by the blasts.
Another explosion was later reported at Aleppo's Chamber of Commerce.
Prominent activists have expressed suspicions that the rebels, or terrorists, could have reached the area since the square is permanently heavily guarded and security forces are usually stationed in and around it.
