Cambodia: Hundreds gather outside Royal Palace to mourn former king

Hundreds of people have gathered outside the Royal Palace in Phnom Penh, the capital of Cambodia, to pay their respects to the former King Norodom Sihanouk, who died at the age of 89 on Monday.

Images show people in the square outside crying, bowing their heads, and sat on the kerbs of roads surrounding the palace. Images of the Sihanouk are displayed along with flowers.

The former king remained an influential figure in the country despite abdicating in favour of his son, King Norodom Sihamoni, in 2004.

Officials say they are expecting thousands of people to line the streets from the airport to the royal palace when his coffin arrives in the capital, Phnom Penh, on Wednesday.
