Egypt braced for demonstrations on 2nd anniversary of revolution

Clashes have already broken out in Cairo overnight, ahead of the second anniversary of the revolution.

A mass opposition rally is expected in downtown Cairo on Friday, as President Mohammed Morsi is accused of betraying the revolution.

On Thursday evening, police clashed with protesters who tried to remove barriers blocking a road to Tahrir Square. The clashes continued overnight, as police fired tear gas at demonstrators camping on the square. At least eight people were wounded, officials said.

A small crowd has already gathered in Tahrir Square, the now iconic landmark of the January 25 revolution.

Clashes have reported on Qasr al-Aini again on Friday, following intense clashes on Thursday night which saw tear gas being used to disperse protesters. The road is a main approach to Tahrir Square, and has been blocked by large concrete slabs.
