An Exeter resident has a huge amount to celebrate this weekend after winning not only his dream car, but £100,000 thanks to charity lottery, People’s Postcode Lottery.

Peter Sergeant, 69, had been enjoying a coffee morning in his sheltered accommodation when he was surprised by People’s Postcode Lottery presenter, Scott Quinnell. Peter, who has only been playing the People’s Postcode Lottery since March this year, was delighted to find out that his postcode EX1 1SE had won him £100,000 and his dream car, BMW 1 series.

“It’s absolutely wonderful news,” said Peter. “I’m so, so happy.” Peter has a lot to smile about as his winnings will enable him to embark on a once in a lifetime holiday with his family next year. “My family have been planning a big trip to Hawaii next year,” Peter said. “I didn’t think I would be able to join them but this money means I’ll easily be able to afford it.”

Retired Peter, who plays with two tickets, decided to sign up to play People’s Postcode Lottery in March this year after seeing People’s Postcode Lottery advertised on TV. He was very keen to help raise money for local charities and good causes including Bideford Bay Surf Life Saving based in Exeter. The project enables children to excel in the skill and sport of surf lifesaving. The charity is also celebrating as it has recently been awarded funding from People’s Postcode Lottery for the first time.

The win has lifted Peter’s spirits as he suffered from a stroke a few years ago and part of his winnings will be able to ensure that his life is a lot more comfortable as well as having an exotic holiday to look forward to.

Along with the huge sum of money, Peter is also the proud new owner of a BMW 1 Series. “The car is the one I have wanted my whole life,” Peter said.  “Unfortunately, as I’m approaching 70, I’ll have to re-apply for my licence soon but even if I can’t drive it myself, I’ll make sure my son Darren can chauffeur me around!”

People’s Postcode Lottery ambassador Scott Quinnell said; “It was fantastic to present Peter with his prizes. He was so thrilled to have won and I know he has big plans for the money and is looking forward to cruising around in his shiny new BMW.”

It’s not just Peter who has benefitted. To date, players of People’s Postcode Lottery have raised £29.5 million for charities and good causes across Great Britain.
