Curtain up on Exeter Northcott Theatre’s Summer School
Creative youngsters began their two-week intensive Summer School at the Exeter Northcott Theatre this week. From 12-24 August participants, aged between 13 and 18, will be working with Devon Youth Theatre's Artistic Director Erin Walcon and a skilled team at the Exeter Northcott to develop a professional piece of theatre culminating in two performances at the theatre on Saturday 24 August.
“We spent the first day creating mini devised pieces. Our young participants have looked into notions of trustworthyness, white lies and awkward truths. We’re so excited about what the rest of the two weeks holds as it's very unusual and rare for a theatre summer school project to be entirely devised” said Erin Walcon.
In addition to gaining performance and behind-the-scenes skills, the theatre is also encouraging the young people to document their experiences of the two weeks on social media. As well as posting on Twitter using the hashtag ‘#ss13’, they will be able to report on each day via the theatre’s Summer School blog with written entries and video interviews at www.northcottsummerschool.wordpress.com.
This is not just a performance on the Exeter Northcott Theatre’s main stage but also a wonderful opportunity for students to develop professional industry skills.
