WESC Foundation calls for entries to Over the Top Charity Challenge
YOU may have driven your car into it, but have you ever fancied abseiling 80ft down Princesshay car park? If the answer is ‘yes’, then you are in luck as WESC Foundation, a specialist centre for visual impairment, is hosting a charity abseil on Saturday 28 September, from 9am until 6pm, where anyone 12 years and over can take part.
The fundraising challenge is being overseen by extreme sports experts Isca Outdoor and last year the event helped raise £6000 for the Exeter-based charity through entry fees and sponsorship.
Maggie Garrett, event organiser and assistant fundraiser for the charity based on Topsham Road, Exeter, comments:
“Last year we had over 30 people take part in the challenge and we are hoping to attract 175 abseilers this year to mark our special anniversary year. Funds raised last year went towards providing a wheelchair accessible multi-gym, music therapy workshops and studio equipment and a custom made mini bus. This year the money raised from the event will go towards adventure and outdoor activity holidays / breaks for the young people here.”
“We are encouraging all abilities to have a go at abseiling for WESC Foundation and we would like anyone with a physical disability and wanting to take part to please get in touch.”
Isca Outdoor will provide qualified instructors, all of the equipment and participants will also be given ground level training.
James Carter from Hosted Desktop UK has already signed up to the challenge with two other work colleagues and recently took part in a photo shoot to help promote the forthcoming fundraising event.
James comments: “We are really proud to be supporting WESC Foundation and hope we can help get 175 people behind the event. The charity relies on the generosity and support of the public to help provide life enhancing opportunities for the children at WESC Foundation and we hope to raise a tidy sum to help provide equipment and opportunities.”
There is a £20 registration fee and WESC Foundation is asking for a minimum of £60 sponsorship.
Entry packs can be either downloaded via www.wescfoundation.ac.uk or by calling 01392 454334.
