East Devon District Council is inviting all Honiton’s residents, voluntary and community groups and other organisations to send their ideas to Honiton Town Council on how the cash can be spent on sport in the area.

All the funds available have been out aside by East Devon District Council from recent housing developments in the parish of Honiton (Section 106 money). The district council has a nationally acclaimed policy of involving residents in how this money is spent.

Honiton Town Council is urging individuals as well as voluntary and community groups and other organisations, especially sports and recreation groups, to submit proposals for projects they would like to undertake. The ideas can include all sorts of outdoor sports proposals from an outdoor gym or basketball court to a cricket or football pitch.

Proposals must be for:

  • New outdoor sports facilities or to improve existing outdoor sports facilities.
  • Permanently sited sports facilities and equipment such as football goals, courts or training areas not for movable equipment like cricket bats, kayaks or tennis rackets.
  • Sports facilities or equipment that is open and accessible to the community

Funding cannot be spent on buildings, indoor facilities, professional sports grounds or golf courses.

Proposals don't need to be fully worked up projects, good ideas are fine but they must all be submitted to Honiton Town Council by Friday 20 September. Anyone wanting to put in a proposal should send their name, the name of the group (if there is one), their contact details, an outline of what their proposal is and an idea of how much money would be needed. If further information is needed people will be contacted for details.

Send the information to Honiton Town Council by e-mail at towncouncil@honiton.gov.uk or you can hand it, in or post it to, Council Offices, New Street, Honiton EX14 1EY.

Once the Town Council has received the proposals, Honiton residents will be given a chance to look at all the ideas and vote on them.

The ideas that gain the most votes will be where the money will be spent.
