Spitfires finally get first away win

Last Sunday, the Exeter Spitfires played their final away game in their inaugural season and took the opportunity to claim their first win away from Chadwick Field.

The Spitfires visited the Torbay Barons and, after dominating the early part of the game before allowing the Barons back into it, claimed an impressive 30-17 win. The win for the Spitfires was their fourth of the season and guaranteed a third place finish in the four-team South West Baseball League.

The team have shown great improvement as the season has progressed and the four wins, along with avoiding finishing bottom of the league, is more than was expected by the Spitfires who knew their first season would be very difficult.

Their efforts to grow the game in Exeter and the South West are continuing as coaching will begin again with the two youth clubs set up at local schools. As well as this, the Spitfires are helping to form a new team in Taunton which will hopefully compete in the South West Baseball League in 2014. Training there will begin in October and full details can be found by contacting tauntonbaseball@hotmail.co.uk

The club will stop training at Chadwick Field in the next couple of weeks, following their final game of the season on 15th September at Chadwick Field against the Plymouth Mariners, but will start indoor training again in January when new players will be very welcome. Full details of the training schedule will be found on the club's Facebook page.
