Young Singers invited to join Wren Music in Exeter
Children and young people in Exeter can join a new term of fun singing and song-writing as part of Wren Music’s Roots Music School.
Wren Music is Devon’s leading community music education charity and is running two groups in Exeter, offering young people the chance to learn from professional singing leaders. Based at St Sidwell’s Centre, Exeter Singing Roots meets weekly on Thursdays from 5-6.30pm, where 8-16 year olds learn a rich range of songs and harmonies from all over the world, as well as discovering how to write their own.
Teenagers (13-18 year olds) who love to sing can join Roots A Capella, a county-wide vocal ensemble that meets on the 3rd Sunday of each month. Also rehearsing at St Sidwell’s Centre, Roots A Capella meet from 12-5pm, and are fast gaining a great reputation for their top-quality performances at festivals around the region.
Both groups offer the opportunity for young singers to become leaders themselves, as well as regularly performing and show-casing what they can do - gaining confidence and leadership skills as they go and becoming adept singers and song writers on the way.
Choir leader and professional singer, Sarah Owen says that the groups are always open to new singers: “We welcome any child or young person who wants to sing, and it’s such a friendly atmosphere that new singers – even those who seem shy at first – quickly feel at home. The young people are frequently blown away by the amazing sound they make. Several parents have remarked to me how much their children have grown in self esteem since attending the group.”
Anyone interested in joining Exeter Singing Roots or Roots A Capella should contact Sarah on 01837 53754 or email sarah@wrenmusic.co.uk. New singers are always welcome. The cost for Exeter Singing Roots is £45 for a 10-week term or £5 per session, and the cost for Roots A Capella is £10 per session.
