Brand new dance studio launches in Exeter with 5-hour danceathon

DanSci Dance Studio participants are all set to dance for five hours to help children survive their first five years.

To celebrate the launch of Exeter’s first independent professional dance studio on 13 October 2013, DanSci Dance Studio in Guinea Street will be holding a five-hour Ultimate Danceathon event to raise money for Save the Children.

Dancers in the local area are invited to come along, get their dancing shoes on and donate what they can to help children around the world survive their vulnerable first five years.

Event organiser Ava Barron Thomas, Director of DanSci Dance Studio said “Five hours is a long time to keep dancing so we are breaking it up with a relay of different dance genres. We have some fantastic local teachers providing back to back classes in contemporary to tap, african to street. This promises to be a fantastic day and the money we raise will help children in the toughest parts of the world.

"We really want DanSci Dance Studio to become part of the community so this is a great way to launch the new venue which is available to hire as well as offering a timetable of superb non-competitive dance classes for all ages.”

Save the Children fundraising executive Anna Bidmead said: “We are so grateful to everyone taking part in The Ultimate Danceathon this year. From ballet to ballroom, Zumba to rumba, we’ve got dancers of every kind taking part – including some doing Wii danceathons in their living rooms!

“Save the Children is working hard to change the lives of the world’s most vulnerable children so every penny raised makes a huge difference. DanSci Dance Studio teachers and everyone who donates to try out a dance class should feel proud that they are making this life-saving work possible.”

Every year, 6.9 million children under five die from easily preventable causes like pneumonia and diarrhoea. Save the Children is working to stop this happening and to ensure more children live to celebrate their fifth birthday and beyond, no matter where they live.
