In tune with Devon’s beautiful countryside
Devon’s beautiful countryside is the focus of a new calendar of photos taken by BBC Radio Devon listeners that will be raising money for Devon Community Foundation.
Thirteen amazing pictures span the county; from May’s image of deckchairs on the beach at Beer to wild winter storms battering the railway line at Dawlish. The images have been chosen from more than a thousand pictures submitted as part of a competition on BBC Radio Devon raising money for the “Give a Gift” Appeal for Devon Community Foundation. The appeal is celebrating the radio station’s 30th birthday and gives gifts of small grants to help disadvantaged people and communities throughout Devon.
BBC Radio Devon’s Editor, Mark Grinnell said: “The pictures we received were stunning and it makes us proud to live and work in such a beautiful county. The calendar is a great way to celebrate 30 years serving this wonderful county and at the same time helping people who need it most.”
Martha Wilkinson, Chief Executive of Devon Community Foundation who was one of the judges, said: “It was so hard to choose from the many incredible pictures we received. In the end we think we have got a great selection of images spanning our stunning county. I was moved to see how much people love where they live and that’s what Give a Gift has all been about: loving your place and the people within it and extending a helping hand to those who need one. Every copy will help generate essential funds to support local people.”
Helen Marks, Area Director for HSBC said: “We are thrilled to be selling the calendars in our Devon branches. We have been working with Devon Community Foundation for a few years and really enjoy our relationship with them. They offer us a chance to raise money for our local community but also to get involved in projects where we can volunteer and make a real difference.”
The winning photos and runners-up are on display in Sainsbury’s café at Marsh Mills in Plymouth and you can buy a copy of the calendar from HSBC branches across Devon or by sending a minimum donation of £10 to:
