A week long trial at Exeter Crown Court has found two people found guilty of armed robbery today.

Lee Prouse, 24 and Jordanne Morris, 21, both of Stanhope Square in Holsworthy, have been found guilty of robbing Knowle Garage in Braunton on Saturday 10th November 2012.

A third defendant, 28-year-old Jamie Latta, of no fixed address, Barnstaple, pleaded guilty prior to the trial.

CCTV footage shows the masked Latta and Prouse threatening shopkeeper, Trude Mian with a meat-cleaver and a kitchen knife and force her to empty the till.

The video cuts out before Mian a 65-year old grandmother grabs one of the knives and chases the robbers from the store.

DC Simon Scotthorne of Barnstaple CID said: “This was a violent and terrifying attack on a lone woman by two men wearing balaclavas who had armed themselves with a meat cleaver. They assaulted and then robbed the victim at her place of work.”

DC Scotthorne paid tribute to Mian, saying: “She showed remarkable courage in standing up to these violent individuals.

“Thankfully these types of incidents are rare but Devon and Cornwall Police are committed to targeting violent crime.”
