Early Christmas present for Exeter shoppers

Shoppers in Exeter are to get an early Christmas present with the announcement of special offers in City-Council run Pay & Display car parks in the run up to Christmas.

Starting tomorrow (Thursday 21 November) parking will be free in all City Council-run Pay & Display car parks after 5pm. And those paying for three hours in Pay & Displays on Sundays will be able to get the rest of the day's parking thrown in for free.

On top of that and as part of Small Business Saturday on 7 December, the City Council is issuing small independent traders in Exeter with special permits, which can be passed onto customers in advance of the day, allowing them to park in City Council-run Pay and Display car parks for double the length of their stay that they pay for.

Cllr Rosie Denham, Lead Councilllor for Economy and Culture, said: "We're hoping this will boost trade in Exeter in the run-up to Christmas, helping to stimulate economic growth. It's good news for both shoppers and businesses."

The news comes just days after the City Council announced that it would be looking to freeze its charges in all its car parks next year, as a boost to the local economy.

From next year, people coming into the city will not see an increase in car park charges if the proposal is accepted by the City Council's Executive on 26 November.
