Lucky ice cream fan, Meryl Logan, has won a nationwide competition to have her own Ben & Jerry’s Core flavour made into a reality.

Meryl, a primary school teacher from Exeter beat stiff competition to see her creation, Toffee Apple YUM-ble - which packs apple and custard ice creams with crumble pieces together around a caramel core - be mixed by expert flavour gurus to her exact specifications.

Ice cream devotees were invited to submit their ideas for a new Core flavour via Twitter using a dedicated hashtag - #MyBenAndJerrys. The competition for the coveted chance to create a flavour ran as part of a new advertising campaign, which hit the screens in mid-September.

Meryl’s winning concoction was picked from the crop for its clever tub name, festive-feel ingredients and the choice of complementing ice creams, which mimic a traditional British dessert. The tubs will not be available in shops, but Meryl, much to her pupils’ delight, will receive a case of her bespoke flavour to share with family and friends - or store in the freezer for posterity!

Rhodri Morgan aka Moo Heff’ner, Senior Brand Manager at Ben & Jerry’s said: “For 35 years, Ben & Jerry’s has perfected the art of creating amazing ice cream combinations, using a vast array of chunks, swirls and most recently the Core, which fuses together two ice creams with a soft centre of deliciousness.

"We are thrilled to be able to offer one fan the chance to make their ice cream dreams come true by creating their very own Core flavour. Our social channels are often filled with new flavour suggestions from our fans so we knew we’d have lots of creative and tasty suggestions.”

Meryl Logan, winning honorary flavour guru said: “I love ice cream and I love apple crumble, so it’s brilliant that Ben and Jerry's are making my ice cream dream come true!"
