With Valentines just days away, maybe you are wondering how to maintain your long distance relationship. Well TED and uncoverdiscover.com are here to help!

#1 - Try to Communicate as Much as Possible

Communication is one of the most important things in a long distance relationship. If you don’t communicate often, your relationship will gradually fade, become pointless, and end shortly. Talking is the best way to build an emotional connection with your partner. You can also try to be romantic sometimes by sending love letters or even flowers; it will surely make your partner see that you try to do new things even if you are thousands of miles away.

#2 – Visit Often

You can’t always be in a position to visit because of work or your financial situation, but you should try to be more ambitious in visiting your partner. Try to do some overtime and work a deal with your employer so you can have an extra day off; or take up a part time job so that you will have more money, enabling you to visit more often. Also, when you do visit, try to do the things that you both love, and enjoy every moment that you spend with your partner.

#3 - Talk About Your Future

Talking about your future is always healthy for a long distance relationship because it gives both you and your partner proper motivation to work on plans where the relationship doesn’t have to be long distance anymore. Also, by talking about your future together, you will see how much your partner appreciates you, and your partner will see how much you appreciate him/her.

#4 - Pursue Common Interests

Just because there is a long distance between you and your partner, doesn’t mean that you can do the same things once in a while. If you are both interested in seeing the same movie, or preparing a new meal, do it at the same time and talk about your experience afterwards. This will keep the relationship alive and will also help you learn a lot about your partner.

#5 - Don’t Be Controlling

Remember that you can’t control your partner, so don’t even try to be controlling. Your partner can do whatever he/she wants, and you can’t do anything to stop it. But, if your relationship is based on honesty, you shouldn’t have to worry about anything. Chances are that if you try to control your partner, he/she will suspect that you are the one that has been cheating, and will do the same or end it with you.

#6 - Use the Advantages of a Long Distance Relationship

Always keep in mind that you can spend more time with your friends, as well as with yourself if you are in a long distance relationship. You really need to use these advantages as much as you can, instead of constantly thinking about your partner who is thousands of miles away. If you focus on spending time with yourself and your friends, you will easily make it through to the next time you see your partner.

#7 – Fantasize

You should try and fantasize about the physical intimacy between you and your partner once a day. You should really challenge your mind to create perfect scenarios that you can play out the next time you see your partner.

#8 – Be Honest The grassroots of any relationship is honesty. Remember to be honest at all times, no matter what situation you got yourself into. You as a couple will surely find a way to work everything out. Talk about how you feel about the relationship, even if you are starting to lose hope in it; maybe just a simple conversation with your partner will help you regain faith in it.
