Exciting times ahead for Exmouth Rowing Club
The future is looking promising for Exmouth Rowing Club as they look to refurbish their new premises at the old lifeboat station on the seafront in Exmouth.
As part of East Devon District Council's regeneration of the seafront, the club has been able to relocate from their old premises, adjacent to the old lifeboat station. The old premises are currently in the process of being demolished as part of the regeneration of Queen’s Drive.
Councillor Andrew Moulding, Deputy Leader of East Devon District Council and Chairman of the Exmouth Regeneration Programme Board said: “The relocation of the Rowing club is a clear, visual sign that the regeneration of the seafront is underway. The council is committed to supporting Exmouth’s regeneration for the benefit of all residents, businesses, visitors and wider community. I look forward to seeing the final refurbished premises and wish the club every success for the upcoming season.”
Refurbishment of the building to bring it up to date is being funded by the club through an Inspired Facilities grant from Sport England.
Graham Hurley, Chair of Exmouth Rowing Club, said: “We're very excited about our move to the old lifeboat station and grateful to EDDC - both councillors and officers - for their support. The refurbishment is now well under way and will enable us to offer first-class facilities for our membership and the wider community to enjoy.”
Next to the old lifeboat station is the Queen’s Drive Leisure Area, the unique 9.3 acre seafront site that obtained outline planning approval in December 2013 for the development of the site into a recreation and leisure zone. This is currently being marketed to potential developers as well as existing leaseholders or local businesses interested in the site. These developments are key to the Exmouth vision to establish the resort as an attractive 21st century destination for residents, businesses and visitors.
