The South Devon Link Road project team has announced the introduction of a new speed limit on the Penn Inn area of the construction site.

New speed limits will come into effect on the A380 Besigheim Way, north of the Penn Inn roundabout, from Friday (14 March).

The new limits are being set to ensure the safety of road users and South Devon Link Road employees working on the new north approach to the Penn Inn flyover.

From Friday, northbound vehicles leaving the roundabout towards Exeter will enter a new 30mph zone alongside the works area of contractors Galliford Try. Once vehicles pass this area the current National Speed Limit will apply as normal.

In addition, vehicles heading south towards Penn Inn from Exeter will enter a new 50mph zone from Wear Barton. This new 50mph limit will apply until vehicles reach the section where the works are taking place, when the new 30mph rule will apply.

Dave Carne, Road Casualty Reduction and Traffic Management Officer for Devon and Cornwall Police, said: “These new limits will help ensure the safety of both road users and construction workers. The lower speed limit already in force on the Aller stretch of the A380 has shown they can be successful in providing a safer environment for everyone.”

The new speed limits will remain in place until the project is complete, due in December 2015.
