Teignbridge springs into summer
Breakfast with the birds, an Easter treasure hunt and Green Dreamin’ – there are lots of ways to celebrate spring and summer with Teignbridge Council’s Green Spaces Events Guide for April – June.
Twenty activities are being held across the district’s parks, nature reserves and open spaces over the next three months.
And the guide is the ‘go to’ place where families can find out more. In addition we have posters that advertise our Easter craft activities in local parks.
The guide details lots of events across a variety of Teignbridge’s nature reserves and parks including Dawlish Warren, Orley Common near Ipplepen, Coombe Valley in Teignmouth, Hackney Marshes, Milber Woods and Decoy Country Park, Newton Abbot.
Activities range from building a hotel for bugs at Dawlish Warren on Wednesday 9 April to the ‘Green Dreamin’ afternoon where children make dream catchers at Decoy on Thursday 29 May.
There will also be a Midsummer celebration on Saturday 21 June at Coombe Valley as well as lots of opportunities to have a go at bracken bashing!
Many of these sites are within walking distance of local communities, are open all year, and are free for everyone to enjoy. Each event is led by a Green Spaces Ranger so no-one needs to be a wildlife expert to take part.
Cllr George Gribble, Teignbridge Executive Spokesperson for Communities, Recreation and Leisure said: “This guide is the follow up to our January- March events guide. There are lots for families to get stuck into and many educational and informative events offer residents and visitors a chance to get close to wildlife and nature.
“Now the days are getting longer, it is the perfect opportunity to start planning days out over the Easter break. It tells you everything you need to know, for example what age group each event is suitable for, what you need to bring and useful contact details.
“We’re really proud of our quality green spaces and we want to celebrate them with the young and young at heart! I’d encourage everyone to pick up a copy of the guide from local libraries, schools, information centres or our local offices.”
The guide will be updated for the following months – watch this space for details.
The illustrated brochure is now available online at www.teignbridge.gov.uk/greenspacesevents or in hard copy from libraries, information centres, schools, Decoy Country Park office, Dawlish Warren visitor centre, and Teignbridge Council offices.
