Cantonese and Mandarin Food Hygiene Training
Food handlers working in Exeter’s Chinese restaurants and takeaways are being offered the opportunity to gain a hygiene award when the Council runs a Cantonese and Mandarin training event next week.
The Level 2 Award in Food Safety in Catering is delivered by a tutor who speaks both languages and covers topics such as food poisoning and contamination, food storage and temperature control, cleaning, personal hygiene and pest control.
Cllr Keith Owen, Lead Councillor for Environment, Health and Wellbeing, said: “It’s important that all food handlers receive appropriate hygiene training. If they’re handling high risk foods, environmental health officers recommend undertaking a Level 2 course within three months of starting work. Food handlers generally find this training both interesting and beneficial to their work as it gives them a better appreciation of the food safety practices employed in the kitchen.”
Exeter City Council operates the Food Hygiene Rating Scheme, whereby hygiene scores are made available to the public via a website and through the display of a sticker and certificate at the premises. Scores are based on the level of food safety, structure and management found at the time of an inspection and so this training may help businesses achieve a better rating through promoting good hygiene practices in the kitchen.
The course runs between 9:30am and 5:00pm on Tuesday 8 April, at the Civic Centre. Cost per delegate is £60, which includes a course book, tea and coffee. A number of places on the course are still available. To book a place, call 01392 265147 or email environmental.health@exeter.gov.uk
