New supt to lead South Devon police teams

Superintendent Glen Mayhew has been meeting with partner agencies in his first month as the police lead for South Devon to discuss community and policing priorities.

“We are all facing unique challenges as demand changes and organisations continue to design ways to deal with financial cuts.
This poses both challenges and opportunities, but the key will be effective partnership working with other agencies and with local communities.”  He said

With overall control for policing Torbay, Teignbridge and South Hams, Supt Mayhew has responsibility for over 300 employees including police officers, civilians and Special Constables. His management team of two Chief Inspectors, seven Inspectors and four Detective Inspectors will assist him.

Having grown up in South Devon, Supt Mayhew first began his career with Devon & Cornwall Police twenty years ago as a Police Constable in Plymouth. Since then, he has held key responsibilities for critical and major incidents across the Force.

More recently he was Director of Intelligence, working across the whole of the South West to tackle organised crime groups.
He has extensive experience of operational policing including the command of Firearms operations, major incidents and high profile public order incidents.

On observing his teams over the last few week, Supt Mayhew said “There has been great work delivered across South Devon by local officers and partner agencies. My role is to support the development of this work and ensure we seek to deliver consistent high standards” .
