Acclaimed jazz guitarist Remi Harris
Renowned gypsy jazz guitarist Remi Harris will be performing at Hope Hall, Exeter on Sunday 7th September.
Born in Herefordshire, the gifted 26 year old is now regarded in the top handful of gypsy jazz guitarists in the UK, and is visiting Devon as part of his national summer tour.
2014 has seen him impress crowds at jazz festivals and prepare for a series of concerts across the length and breadth of Britain. After a successful tour through France and a packed month long tour of Australia last winter, Remi has been performing at prestigious venues including The Royal Albert Hall, alongside boutique evenings in rural venues. His recent performance at the Brecon Jazz festival, which was celebrating its 30th anniversary year, was met by rave reviews as a full-house of jazz enthusiasts praised his contemporary sound.
Remi commented on his upcoming performance, ‘We’re really looking forward to coming down to Exeter, and Hope Hall looks like such a great venue- I think the acoustics will really work with the music we play. It’s also going to be fun to have an audience full people who might not have heard us before as this is our first show in Devon.’
Remi’s unique style blends traditional gypsy jazz and swing elements with blues, bebop, rock, world music, popular melodies and contemporary jazz. The Remi Harris Gypsy Jazz Project’s mesmerizingly different sound has caught the attention of music magazines, label bosses and jazz broadcasters, with legendary Birmingham jazz label Big Bear Records signing Remi late last year.
His debut album, Ninick, received overwhelmingly good reviews from critics and jazz-lovers alike. Jazz writer and broadcaster Digby Fairweather commented that Remi was ‘Probably Britain’s greatest jazz guitarist to emerge since Martin Taylor… a recorded debut which places Remi Harris securely in the front line of the world’s finest jazz guitarists’.
Guitar Techniques, the legendary music magazine, recently rated Remi’s talent as 5/5, commenting ‘this is true jazz yet it has a delightfully refreshing approach; that brings a smile to the face while the ears are amazed at what they are receiving.’
The Remi Harris Gypsy Jazz Project is performing at Hope Hall, Hope Road, Exeter on Sunday 7th September, at 7.30pm. Tickets are £10 and available by calling Dani on 07814 986 868 or emailing remiharrismusic@gmail.com
