Dartmoor’s historic Stannary town of Chagford will host an extravaganza of festive food, stylish fashion, hand-made arts and crafts, superb gift ideas and live entertainment on Tuesday 9th December 2014 (6.30 ‘till late).
Chagford’s shops, Square and iconic octagonal Market House will again be bedecked with lights and beautifully decorated Christmas trees at this year’s late night event. The wide array of independent shops is once again putting on a spectacular evening where thousands of delightful gifts will be on offer for the whole family, with something for all budgets. Festive entertainment will bring the streets alive from 6.30pm. Father Christmas will of course be there with his reindeer and children can visit him in his sparkling grotto in The Courtyard. There will prizes for the best dressed Elf and Fairy, so get those pointy ears and wands out!
Bands and choirs will be treating late-night shoppers to some musical merriment and local estate agent Philip Fowler, who has kindly agreed to compere the evening, will be entertaining us with some stylish crooning of his own.
There will be a variety of delicious food and drinks on offer, including the legendary Chagford Hog Roast, always a hit with visitors. Hot chestnuts will be roasting and mulled wine and mince pies will also be aplenty.
For the foodie in your life, Blacks Delicatessen, Courtyard and the Moorland Dairy have lots of delicious treats to stock your festive hampers. For wine-buffs or someone looking for advice for some choice winter tipples, local wine merchant Best Cellars has a splendid Christmas wine selection from around the world. It’s never too early to stock up for the December festivities.
For creative and arty gifts, the galleries at Divine, Ludgate Fine Arts, Artisan and 30 The Square will provide lots of inspiration. You’ll also love the fashions in Casa Magnolia and Filly & Bounder and don’t forget the cards, giftwrap and bows all available in the town.
Discover the multitude of hidden gems in Chagford’s two famous ‘department stores’ Bowdens and Webbers, real Aladdin’s Caves of everything you could possibly need for that special gift. Walking, gardening, cooking and almost any activity you care to mention are all catered for within; a real treat to browse and choose.
Shops will be buzzing until 8pm and then late-night shoppers can move on to enjoy drinks and some supper at one of Chagford’s 8 pubs and restaurants. A warm welcome is guaranteed so come and join the lovely people of Chagford for a magical evening of Christmas cheer!

Enjoy your shopping this year! The moorland town of Chagford celebrates Christmas in style and with panache. Just off the A30, it’s easily reached from all parts of Devon. There will be extra car parking for the evening in the local school grounds. You will quickly discover why Chagford is known as the jewel of Dartmoor.
And if there is anything you have missed, why not pop back for Wonderworks Contemporary Craft Fair at Chagford’s Jubilee Hall on Saturday and Sunday 13th and 14th December? Wonderworks is a hugely popular craft fair, now in its 12th year and it will be open on Saturday 13th December from 10am to 5pm and Sunday 14th December from 10am to 4.30pm.
