Electric Friday hits Exeter
People are being invited to ‘charge around’ Exeter as Electric Friday hits the city.
Exeter City Council has joined up with sponsors Westerly Exeter BMW to encourage more people to use electric cars.
On Friday (12 December), shoppers using the City Councils car parks will be able to find out more about Electric Cars, and charging facilities provided by the Council as well as an opportunity to see the new BMW i3 and i8, provided by charge point sponsors Westerly Exeter BMW.
The Chargepoints located at Matford Park and Ride, Mary Arches, John Lewis, Guildhall, Cathedral and Quay, and Magdalen Road Car Park were installed earlier in the spring. The installation was the result of a successful bid for government funding, as part of a wider focus to encourage use of Electric Vehicles which produce no exhaust pipe emissions. The Chargepoints are free to use but parking charges apply as normal.
Cllr Rachel Sutton, Lead Councillor for City Development, said: “Electric cars emit zero exhaust emissions and offer a real opportunity to improve air quality, as well as reducing noise pollution. Everyone who lives or visits the city stands to benefit, especially the motorist who will in most cases save money.”
Not only will the day be an opportunity for people to take a closer look at these automotive game changing cars, but Westerly Exeter BMW will also be running a very exciting competition to win a BMW i3 for a weekend. People can simply take a “selfie” picture of themselves at any of the chargepoints across Exeter on Friday and submit the image via twitter, including the hashtag #electricselfie as well as @WesterlyBMW and @ExeterCouncil.
Group Marketing Manager, John Cass said: “It’s been an amazing year for the BMW i brand with the BMW i3 winning the World Green Car of the Year and the BMW i8 being rewarded with rave reviews and winning several design awards.”
