A man has died following a collision on the outskirts of Exeter.

Officers, along with paramedics, were called to Exhibition Way, Pinhoe at 2.30pm today, 27th January after reports that a pedestrian was seriously injured.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene.

Enquiries are ongoing to establish the circumstances of the death but police are investigating if he was in collision with a lorry.

The man has not been formally identified and his family are currently being traced.

The road is closed at Exhibition Way and Cumberland Way.

Traffic in the area is already congested due to the earlier collision on the M5.

Motorists are strongly advised to avoid the area as the road will be closed for several hours while collision investigators are at the scene.

Stagecoach have diverted some bus services while Middlemoor roundabout is closed.

Services K,J and T are diverting as follows:

For outbound Journeys the services are diverting via Whipton Barton Road, Honiton Road and via Moor Lane and Cumberland Way. The inbound Journeys are diverting from Pinhoe via Venny bridge, Cumberland Way and via Honiton Road to Heavitree.

A spoksperson for the bus company said: "We have been informed there has been a serious accident near Pinhoe Road which has resulted in road closures in this area.

"Whilst these closures are in place, the services which would normally use the main road to and from Pinhoe, will be severely affected. Services 1, 1A, 1B,  J, K, T and the Red Park and Ride will be required to follow the lengthy diversion that is in place, and unfortunately as this coincides with the existing M5 J29-28 northbound closure, we are expecting significant delays on the services listed above this afternoon."
