Results in for Bishops Clyst outdoor gym
The results are in! A voting event was held by Bishops Clyst Parish Council for residents of Bishops Clyst to choose their new £7,000 free to use outdoor gym.
The turnout was impressive, with 40 residents from all age-groups coming along to vote at the event in January.
Residents got to vote on which one of three designs they wanted installed, the winner with all 40 votes was a design from a company called HAGS SMP. The result has been ratified by Bishops Clyst Parish Council EDDC will now look to ratify the result to release the available money.
East Devon District Council (EDDC) and Bishops Clyst Parish Council have been working together to provide Bishops Clyst residents with the free-to-use outdoor gym that they want.
The outdoor gym facility has been proposed and chosen by the local community. Last year, Bishops Clyst Parish Council and EDDC asked community groups, residents and other organisations to put forward their ideas as to how £7,000 of sports funding accumulated from recent Bishops Clyst housing developments (Section 106 money) should be spent.
The eligible, possible and affordable ideas were then taken out to residents and they got to vote on which ones they wanted to happen. The winning idea was to spend £7,000 on free-to-use outdoor gym facilities.
Bishops Clyst Parish Council researched possible locations and what types of equipment could be provided. They decided that the gym equipment would be best placed in the recreation field near Clyst St Mary Village Hall.
Councillor Michael Norman, Chairman of Bishops Clyst Parish Council, and a member of the Steering Group for the outdoor gym, said: “I believe the residents have chosen the right company to deliver the most effective pieces of equipment that will benefit all”.
Councillor Iain Chubb, EDDC portfolio holder for Environment said: “The community have chosen the facility they want for the parish. We have a policy of letting local residents decide how this sports funding from new developments is spent. This has resulted in a lot of improvements throughout the district. I am looking forward to seeing the outdoor gym installed and being used by people of all ages.”
