Dozens of floral tributes have been laid at the scene of an accident in which a 10-year-old Devon boy died.

The side of a house has become a temporary memorial to Samuel Crocker

One of the tributes read: "To dear Samuel. We are all missing you and are devastated that your life was ended early. We hope you are OK and we will never forget you. From Tristan".

A resident, who asked not to be named, said Samuel was a popular boy and that the whole community was in shock.

Samuel William James Crocker, from the Crediton area, was involved in a collision with a white Vauxhall Combo van shortly before 1.35pm on Saturday 28 February at Threshers in Crediton.

A police spokesman said: “Samuel was taken to the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital but he died from his injuries. His family have been informed.”

Cameron Trivett, 24, of Mill Street, Crediton, is charged with driving a vehicle that failed to stop after a road traffic collision and causing death by careless or inconsiderate driving.

Mr Trivett was bailed by Exeter magistrates today to appear before Exeter Crown Court on 27 March.

Anyone who can help police with their enquiries should contact 101 quoting log 397.
