Exmouth based renewable energy firm, MIG Renewable Technologies, has expanded its energy efficiency credentials with an accreditation which will enable the firm to carry out loft insulations on homes throughout Devon, free of charge.

The Publicly Available Specification (PAS) 2030 is the British Standards Institution (BSI) standard upon which the Green Deal is built. The Green Deal is a government scheme that looks to transform the UK’s building stock to ensure all properties are warmer and cheaper to run.

In order to achieve the accreditation, MIG Renewables had to prove that all the work they do complies with the Green Deal Code of Practice. The code ensures that all Green Deal participants operate fairly, transparently and effectively, so that consumers can be confident that they are taking part in a properly regulated scheme that will provide them with real benefits.

MIG Renewables Managing Director Marcus Di-Vincenzo said: “We have secured this accreditation and government funding that enables us to fit insulation on certain properties, completely free of charge to the homeowners. We have to adhere to strict regulations and guidelines as part of the Green Deal Code of Practice, which means that homeowners can be assured that we are installing the best products in a professional manner.

He continued: “At a time when families are struggling to heat their homes, loft insulation is a vital part of increasing energy efficiency of old houses and helping people to heat their homes for less. Fuel poverty is a real issue in the UK, and homes that don’t have loft insulation will spend a lot of money on heating without much success because the heat simply escapes. What we need now is for people to get in touch so that we can assess their homes to see if they are eligible.”

Recent figures from the National Energy Action charity suggest that 4.5 million people are in fuel poverty across the UK, with three quarters of low-income families in the South West struggling to pay their energy bills in the last year. The Department of Energy and Climate Change are continuing to help make homes warmer through the Green Deal initiative.

MIG Renewable Technologies, based in Exmouth, is part of the MIG Group and is an accredited installer of renewable energy systems and solar panel installations for commercial businesses, landowners, farmers and domestic properties. The company has already successfully installed loft insulation on a number of properties in Devon and Cornwall, helping homeowners to heat their homes for less. Typically, old properties and farm houses might be in need of more suitable insulation.

The firm is now on the lookout for homeowners that think their property is in need of adequate loft insulation. If you live in Devon or Cornwall, and your property has little or no loft insulation, MIG Renewable Technologies would like to hear from you.

If your property is deemed suitable, MIG Renewables will fit loft insulation at your property, at no cost to you, helping you to keep your home warm and improving the energy efficiency of your property.
