Join wild food expert Chris Holland in the beautiful surroundings of Holyford Woods Local Nature Reserve for a foraging walk and supper.

The walk, organised by East Devon District Council’s Countryside team, is on Friday 15 May from 7 until 9pm. Participants will learn how to safely recognise and prepare at least 15 wild edible plants to be found in the woods during mid May and will also cook up some of their findings en route.

Chris said “Foraging for wild food and cooking it together around an open fire is something humans have been doing in small groups for hundreds of thousands of years. Without the knowledge of plants our ancestors gained none of us would be here today. By knowing which plants are safe and some of the ones to avoid not only will you be able to forage without fear, you will also have a light snack of some freshly prepared spring greens.”

The cost for the session is £10. Booking is essential for this event, as places are limited, and early booking is recommended. Call 01395 517557 or email countryside@eastdevon.gov.uk to secure a place.

Chris has been eating wild food and using hedgerow medicine for over 20 years and running foraging courses for 15. He has taught at the Eden Project, led forages for BP staff and the NHS and is a leading inspiration in the field of nature connection and creative outdoor learning in schools across the country. He is the author of the best selling forest school guidebook, “I love my world.” Visit www.wholeland.org.uk for more details.
