Declan Sinnott
Declan Sinnott with Vickie Keating + support Harbottle & Jonas at Kingskerswell Parish Church on June 12th Doors 7pm
Declan Sinnott has been touring the UK for a number of years alongside Christy Moore, playing to huge audiences at some of the country’s most prestigious venues, always billed as Christy Moore and Declan Sinnott. However, until he released his first solo album in 2013, he had not seized the opportunity to tour solo.
In September last year, Declan Sinnott released that first solo album on Warner Music. It's called 'I Love the Noise it Makes'. The title is based on a John Lennon remark. When asked If he liked a record because of the words or the music or the rhythm or the guitars, Lennon replied "It's just the noise it makes".
Declan has produced and/or played with a host of talented performers and musicians over the years: Christy Moore, Mary Black, Sinead Lohan, John Spillane, Moving Hearts and Horslips to name but a few. However, for this album, he does all the singing and playing and knob twiddling himself. Declan's former work won't prepare you for 'I love the noise it makes'. It's as fresh as it is different.
From the bright and hopeful opening of "Sun shine in" to the playful fun of "It's just the Noise it Makes" to the hunger and loss of "Dark Companion" the album is a truly captivating work. It demands to be listened to repeatedly and with each listen it offers up a little more. It is a journey rather than a destination and it takes in a wide view of the human condition along the way. It may be an album of subtle pleasure and aural delicacy but it also grabs and captivates. 'I love the Noise it Makes' mixes an understated musical elegance and an almost McCartneyesque catchiness. The songs have great depth and character. These twelve songs cajole and transport the listener through a sometimes hauntingly real, often desperately hopeful journey that will remain long after the music dies away.
David Harbottle & Freya Jonas are based in the wilderness of Totnes. They paint pictures with their words and share stories of folk, auld and new. They are hardworking songsmiths who place emphasis on musical independence and originality, and they breathe new life into traditional English Folk songs.
