Cloudbusting-exchange the Kate Bush Experience
‘Cloudbusting’ are a 5-piece band of musicians who are obsessed with the music of Kate Bush.
Formed in 2012 and based in Devon and Cornwall, they kicked off their 40-date tour of the UK with a special performance at The Half Moon in Putney. This is the venue where Kate last played with the KT Bush Band in 1977 before she was whisked off to stardom by EMI with the release of ‘Wuthering Heights’.
‘Cloudbusting’ play 2 hour-long sets including all Kate’s well known songs and a generous selection of fan-pleasing album tracks from every phase of her career. The show recreates her trademark ‘theatricalism’ not with outlandish dance moves or wide-eyed gesticulating but with a respectful nod by lead singer Mandy Watson towards the iconic performances of songs like ‘Wow’ and ‘Running Up That Hill’.
Visually, the show is supported by projection-mapped backdrops of video artwork sent in by Kate-loving artists from around the world. Close your eyes and you’ll hear Kate Bush. (This is genuinely something we hear again and again at our concerts, and our YouTube/Facebook pages are literally overflowing with similar comments.) Open your eyes again and stage designer Nick Gregory’s video mapping will entice you into inhabiting the stories these wonderful songs tell.
The band take great pride in recreating as authentically as possible the complex textures of Kate’s recordings. Highest quality emulations of the instruments she used (the Fairlight synthesiser, Uilliean Pipes, digeridoos etc) are used sparingly along-side more traditional instruments like fretless bass. Everything is played in real time with no click tracks and no sequences.
The band ‘Cloudbusting’ has attracted universal critical acclaim from fans since its inception in 2012. It is fully endorsed by the 35-year-running official Kate Bush fan club HomeGround, and indeed has for the last three years been asked to play at the Homeground Midsummer Party at the RVT in Vauxhall to packed audiences.
