Interserve team cycle length UK in three days
Interserve, the international support services and construction group, has completed an epic cycle ride covering the distance from John O’Groats to Lands End in three three days on a static bike, to help raise money for a new Academy for the Exeter Royal Academy for Deaf Education.
Members of the A team of Interserve South West Regional Building and Infrastructure teamemployees, through the company’s Give A Day Of Your Time (GADOYT) initiative started their cycle challenge on Wednesday 22nd July at 4pm in Tesco, Exeter Vale, Exeter. on a turbo trainer position in Tesco’s at Exeter Vale, Russell Way in Exeter. The team were was supported by Exeter based Bike Motion who kindly lent them a bike turbo trainer bike for the duration of the challenge.
The cycle was non-stop, with team changes every 6 six hours., Eeach team consisted of three members, whilst one member was cycling the other two members supported and fundraised. Every spin counted and the team cycled and collected throughout the night.
Divisional Director of Interserve, Paul Gale, who started the event and was part of the first six hour shift said: “The team did fantastically well. Thank you to all the shoppers at Tescos’s over the three days and nights who supported and donated Tesco shoppers who supported and donated. We have raised £1,680 to dateso far, which is terrific.
"I am very proud to have been part of this event, the support from all our staff, Bike Motion and the general public has been tremendous and this money will help contribute towards the new Academy for the Royal Academy for Deaf Education.”
Jonathan Farnhill, Chief Executive of the Exeter Royal Academy for Deaf Education, also started the event andwho cycled with Paul during the first six hour shift, commented, “As one of the starting trio it was a privilege to be a part of Interserve’s fundraising event in aid of the Deaf Academy New Build Project. Interserve truly came together for this challenge; Iit was a phenomenal team effort and our thanks goes to everyone who was involved and donated.”
The challenge finished on Saturday 25th July when the Interserve team reached Lands End. There were plenty of sore body parts over the following few days, but all riders have now made a full recovery.
