Hands Up for Jonny Wilkinson's Right Boot
Live Wire Theatre, one of the South West’s foremost theatre companies, has announced a stellar cast for their latest show that they will be staged at The Barnfield Theatre Exeter on Friday and Saturday 16th & 17th October as part of the celebrations for The Rugby World Cup 2015.
Giles Coram, Hannah Douglas, Moira Hunt and George Williams lead a distinguished cast in the intriguingly entitled Hands Up for Jonny Wilkinson's Right Boot which will be touring theatres across the South West during the eight week tournament with the generous support of The Arts Council.
Hands Up for Jonny Wilkinson’s Right Boot brings to life one of those unforgettable moments when everyone can remember exactly where they were and what they were doing: The Rugby World Cup Final 2003 - November 22nd 2003 to be precise; England versus Australia in Sydney and with just 26 seconds to the final whistle and the score standing at a tantalising 17-17 Jonny Wilkinson makes history by dropping a goal with his right boot to win the World Cup for England!
And twelve years on as we anticipate the dramas of the impending Rugby World Cup 2015, Live Wire Theatre are set to re-enact the history and drama of Jonny Wilkinson's historic moment together with many other celebrated rugby memories in their innovative and fast moving production of Hands Up for Jonny Wilkinson's Right Boot.
From the first British Lions tour to New Zealand in 1908 to Jonny Wilkinson's 2003 drop goal via Nelson Mandela's presentation of the first ever Rugby World Cup trophy to South African captain Francois Pienaar, Live Wire Theatre embark on a round-the-world-rugby-replay complete with songs, stories and physical re-enactments of matches and rugby rituals including the All-Blacks' legendary Haka.
