Tortoise & Hare: Making a Meal of Storytelling
Amongst all the cake guzzling, sweet quaffing and sugar-hyped activities on offer for kids this half term, there is another event in town that promises not only to entertain the children but to get them truly excited by carrots and the good stuff!
Tortoise & Hare: Making a Meal of Storytelling re-imagines Aesop’s fable to look at the conflict between slow and fast food.
Hare is a fun but unreliable chocoholic whilst her friend Tortoise is moody, slow but a rather fine chef.
They set off on a race to see who can deliver a meal faster to their party guests. Whilst Hare orders a pizza and believes she’ll win hands down, Tortoise gathers the help of the children to prepare tasty wraps and delicious sorbet full of goodness.
Seated round a kitchen table and actively helping Tortoise prepare the ingredients, the children are very much part of the party - what they create (with guidance and help of their new animal friends) is what they eat.
Michael, Zoe and India Caines who came to the show at The Bike Shed Theatre last year said: ‘It’s a wonderful show. It really helped educate the children about where food comes from. We had great fun.’
Having sold out at The Bike Shed Theatre last year, the show is back, now playing at The Hall in Exeter, by popular demand. ‘We were overwhelmed by the response last year’ said Kelly Miller who conceived the project along with Jonny R. Rowden for AMINAL. ‘We had parents sending us cards thanking us for getting their kids excited about cooking and eating healthily. It’s such a joy to know our show had that kind affect.’
Tortoise & Hare: making a meal of storytelling runs 26-30 October at The Hall in Exeter and is suitable for childen aged five plus. Tickets cost £10 or £8 for children and concessions. Performances are at 11.30am and 2.30pm daily and can be booked via www.bikeshedtheatre.co.uk
