Fire crews tackle barn blaze
Fire crews were called to a barn fire in East Devon earlier today (Monday 5 October).
Fire Control mobilised appliances from Seaton, Colyton, Axminster and the water carrier from Exeter to reports of a fire within a barn at a farm near Musbury.
On arrival crews found one building measuring 120m x 20m containing straw and livestock, efforts were made to remove straw and farm vehicles.
Three hose reel jets, a thermal imaging camera, drag forks and two breathing apparatus were in use.
The cause of the fire was believed to be accidental.
One appliance was remaining on seen for a short time to ensure no further fire spread.
A spokesperson for Devon & Somerset Fire & Rescue Service said: “This incident is now complete and was brought under control at 06:28hrs. All appliances have now returned.
“No persons were involved or injured and there was no damage to the barn.
“Damage was confined to five tonnes of hay only (removed by farm machinery) and the livestock (cattle) were kept in situ, in a safe place and were unharmed.”
Fire crews were also called to tackle a barn fire in Tiverton today.
Two appliances from Tiverton, one from Bampton and the Water Carrier from Exeter Danes Castle, were mobilised following a report of a barn on fire at Little Haydon, Stoodleigh, Tiverton just after 8.30am.
Upon arrival crews located a fire within a barn of approximately 20m by 20m, containing bales of hay which were well alight. . Crews set to work with two hose reel jets.
Sixty bales of hay were removed to open air.
Twenty per cent of barn was damaged by fire, the contents 100 pe cent damaged.
Two hose reel jets and analytical risk assessment used. The cause was confirmed as accidental and the incident has been handed over to the farmer.
