Go surfing with Teignbridge
Teignbridge District Council is backing national Get Online Week which takes place this week (12-18 October).
The annual campaign aims to inspire people to get online and see what the internet could do for them.
Teignbridge is keen to help residents learn more about how they can apply for, report and pay for things online through the council’s website, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
During the week residents who visit the council’s Forde House offices can ‘Go surfing with Teignbridge’ and learn how easy it is to click on to a service, pay a bill, report something, or order an item such as a new recycling container.
Cllr John Goodey, Teignbridge District Council's Executive member for Community Neighbourhoods, said: “Teignbridge is keen to raise awareness of just how much is available for customers to self-serve using the Teignbridge website. With around 40,000 people visiting our website every month, residents are starting to see the advantages of online contact.
"In the last year, we’ve seen an impressive increase of 23% of submissions to the many different web forms which customers can use to contact us, make a payment, report an incident, or apply for something.
“Get Online week is a great way to highlight how easily it can be done but also support people to improve their computer and internet skills.
“At Forde House reception we have a self-help area so people can go online if they don’t have internet access at home - but rather than trek out to Brunel Road, don’t forget that all our local libraries offer free wifi and free computer access too.
“By going to www.teignbridge.gov.uk/getonline our customers can find out where their nearest library is, or see one of the other locations that offer free access and computer learning skills.”
Visit Teignbridge’s website www.teignbridge.gov.uk, where you can do all this and more: pay for council tax, parking permits, business rates, and parking fines; report moving home, missed waste collection, fly tipping, and abandoned vehicles; apply for garden, bulky or clinical waste collection, and replacement bins; book leisure classes at local leisure centres.
Teignbridge has its own mobile-phone friendly website which makes it even easier for people to pay, report, apply for things, and more.
Around 28% of residents have used their mobile devices to access Teignbridge.gov.uk in the last year. Just go to www.teignbridge.gov.uk on your mobile phone browser.
